July 22


You wrote your Unit 3 Final Exam today, which took most of the first half of the class. I gave you a fair bit of time today to work on your Chapter 16 Booklet and your Chapter 17 Question Sheet, both of which are due tomorrow (July 23rd). For Chapter 17 here is what you are responsible for:

1. Define the following key terms in Chapter 17:

  • universality
  • ratify
  • genocide
  • Falun Gong
  • prisoner of conscience
  • authoritarian

2. Answer the following questions:

  • What are human rights?
  • What declaration was passed by the UN regarding human rights?
  • Are all rights universal?


3. Take point form notes on the following sections:

  • human rights in China (chart)
  • UNHRC Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples


4. Make sure that you have read the following sections:

  • human rights in Canada/the right to health care
  • spreading democracy in a global world
  • Chapter 16 Booklet is due Friday, July 23rd
  • Chapter 17 Question Sheet is due on Friday, July 23rd
  • Chapter 18 Key Terms and Questions will be due on Monday, July 26th
  • Chapter 16-18 Quiz (key terms quiz) is on Monday, July 26th
  • Final Exam Part A (2 writing assignments: WRA I and WRA III) is on Thursday, July 29th
  • Final Exam Part B (75 multiple choice questions) is on Friday, July 30th
