We had to cover a lot of ground today because we didn't finish everything that we needed to cover yesterday. We started the day off by watching an excerpt of the film "Saving Private Ryan" which showed the American experience on Omaha Beach during the D-Day operations. As I said in class yesterday, once the Allies had established a foothold in France, the Nazis were now fighting the Allies on three different fronts: the Soviet Union in the east, the British and Americans in Italy, and now the British, Americans, Canadians, and others in France. A little less than one year later Nazi Germany would surrender to the Allies, ended WWII in Europe. The Second World War would continue in the Pacific against the Japanese until August 1945.
I also went through a PowerPoint lecture on "The Holocaust", which is in your green study booklets and on the wiki. We also watched some of the documentary called "Genocide" today. You started writing the Unit 2 WRA II Essay today, and we did a peer edit on the introductory paragraph. You were to e-mail this essay to yourself and print off a hard copy for peer editing. We are booked into the Blenheim Room on Friday to finish writing your essays. DO NOT DO ANY EDITING OF YOUR ESSAY BEFORE FRIDAY.
Your Chapter 7 Key Terms and Questions are due on Monday, and your Chapter 8 Key Terms and Questions are due on Tuesday. Make sure that you read these chapters and complete the assigned work on time. Your Chapter 7-8 Test is on Tuesday, please see the study guide below. Your Unit 2 Final Exam is one week from today (July 24th), please see the study guide below.

70 % Honorer K2 Yang Gagal Di Angkat Jadi PNS Bakal Diberi Pesangon Oleh Pemerintah
JAKARTA - Mayoritas tenaga honorer kategori dua (K2) siap-siap saja kecewa. Pasalnya, pemerintah memastikan sebanyak 70 persen tenaga honorer K2 tidak akan diangkat menjadi Calon Pegewai Negeri Sipil (CPNS).
Dengan kata lain, hanya 30 persen honorer K2 yang akan menyandang status sebagai PNS. Nah, yang 70 persen lagi, diserahkan nasibnya ke masing-masing pemda. Bisa saja langsung dipensiunkan dan diberi uang pesangon.
"Yang tidak lulus atau tidak memenuhi kriteria akan dikembalikan ke daerah karena itu menjadi tanggung jawab daerah. Apakah dipensiunkan atau diberi pesangon, ujar Kepala Bidang Rekrutmen SDM Aparatur Kementerian Pendayagunaan Aparatur Negara dan Reformasi Birokrasi (KemenPAN-RB) Diah Faraz kepada wartawan di Jakarta, Senin (8/7).
Nah, terkait dengan data-data tenaga honorer K2, pemerintah pusat memberikan waktu hingga 10 Juli ini. Data ini terkait dengan usulan, atau pun data sanggahan publik terhadap nama-nama honorer K2 yang sudah dipublikasikan.Lewat tenggat waktu dimaksud, maka data dan sanggahan tidak akan diterima lagi. Alasan Diah, karena pusat memerlukan waktu untuk pendataan guna keperluan penyelenggaraan tes honorer K2 yang dijadwalkan September mendatang.
Dijelaskan, setelah data masuk, maka akan ditetapkan mana yang memenuhi persyaratan sehingga bisa diketahui jumlah peserta tes. Jumlah peserta ini terkait dengan persiapan penggandaan soal tes. Setelah itu, soal akan didistribusikan ke seluruh daerah.

Teungku Dayah di Aceh Utara Berharap Ular Berkepala Manusia (Jenglot) di Seunuddon Wajib Dimusnahkan Segera
TENGKU dayah di Kecamatan Lhoksukon berharap penemu jenglot di Kecamatan Seunuddon, Aceh Utara, memusnahkan makhluk tersebut.
Teungku Azhari, 32 tahun, salah seorang pengajar di Dayah Nurul Islam Lhoksukon, kepada ATJEHPOSTcom, Sabtu 13 Juli 2013, mengatakan, dalam pandangan Islam, jenglot itu sejenis binatang yang biasa digunakan sebagai alat pemujaan ilmu-ilmu hitam.
“Jenglot tidak dapat dikatakan makhluk halus karena terlihat mata. Yang namanya makhluk halus itu tidak terlihat seperti iblis atau jin,” ujarnya.
Sedangkan Muzakir M Ali atau Abi Muzakir, Pimpinan Dayah Sirajul Huda Lhoksukon mengatakan, dalam Alquran tidak ada penjelasan tentang jenglot. Namun, kata dia, hal semacam jenglot tertuang jelas tentang keajaiban-keajaiban yang sulit diterima logika manusia, tapi mungkin oleh Allah.
“Terkait makhluk atau binatang yang disebut jenglot itu sebaiknya dimusnahkan saja. Agar tidak mengundang iri dan syirik dari orang lain,” ujar Abi Muzakir.
Misalkan saja, kata Abi Muzakir, saat ini di lokasi temuan dibuka kotak amal. Secara perlahan, pasti akan ada orang sekitar atau warga lainnya yang merasa iri. Demikian juga halnya jika ada orang berniat buruk, sehingga malah mempercayai atau malah memuja (menyembah) selain Allah dan menjurus ke syirik.
“Saya menyarankan agar si penemu makhluk itu segera memusnahkannya untuk kebaikan semua. Apalagi jika memang sudah mati. Untuk apalagi disimpan,” ujar Abi Muzakir.
